Assist – Travel & Transport provides support assistance for participants who are unable to use public transport independently due to their disability, ensuring they can access essential services and community activities
A participant is generally eligible if they cannot use public transport without substantial difficulty as a result of their disability and require funded support to travel
Covered supports include door-to-door transport such as taxis or rideshares charged under the Recurring Transport category, training to use public transport, and assistive technology to help navigate transport independently
Transport funding is allocated at one of three participant support levels, which take into account any relevant taxi subsidy schemes; the annual budget may range up to approximately $1,784 for participants not engaged in work, study or day programs
Funding does not cover transport assistance for carers or family members to transport participants, nor does it include transport for everyday commitments independent of the participant’s needs
